Born of Water

The disciples, in the book of Acts,
 baptized people in the name of Jesus. This was a water baptism for the remission of sins, and represents a death to the old man; part of the new birth experience mentioned by Jesus to Nicodemus in John 3.

"And he said, "Into what then were you baptized?" They said, "Into John's baptism." And Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus." On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus." Acts 19:3-5 ESV

Born of Spirit

"When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance." Acts 2:1-4 ESV

Upon receiving the Holy Spirit in our lives, we receive power that we otherwise do not have, because we experience God's Holy Spirit living inside of us!

 "If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you." Romans 8:11 ESV
