God Hears You Even When You Don’t Ask Right
Exodus 15:24, 16:2-3, 17:2
15:24 And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?”
16:2-3 Then the whole congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. 3 And the children of Israel said to them, “Oh, that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”
17:2 Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said, “Give us water, that we may drink.” So Moses said to them, “Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the Lord?”
Devotional: My wife and I have been blessed with three beautiful girls. We always want the best for our girls and have on many occasions given them something they in no way deserved. At times they misbehaved and demanded something they have done nothing to earn. But as any parent who loves their kids beyond comprehension, we are more than happy to give them not only the things they need, but also many things they want. Immediately following the miraculous deliverance from the Egyptians through the Red Sea, the children of Israel began complaining. They complained about bitter waters (Exodus 15:24) as well as a lack of food and water (Exodus 16:2-3; 17:2). Time and time again the Israelites complained. Yet each time they complained, God - in His incredible mercy and love toward them - always provided. God wants to bless you. Even if you feel like you are unloveable, He loves you dearly.
Prayer: Dear Lord, it is hard to comprehend how You could love me so much and show so much patience toward me. Please help me to accept that regardless of my past, my background, or anything in my life, You love me unconditionally. Although I know I could never do anything to earn Your love and Your mercy, please help me to live my life as if I could. Help me to live each day trying with all that is within me to please You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
